Flowering maple
tender perennial
South American
Flowering plant

Abutilon x hybridum

Bell-like blooms in yellow, orange, red, and white adorn this flowering shrub. This fast-growing shrub in the mallow family bears maple-shaped leaves. Growers at the Gardner Museum cultivate Abutilon from cuttings each spring. While they bloom year round, Abutilons flower profusely during the darkest days of the year when their delicate, veined petals filter the slanting light.
