Baby's tears
tender perennial
European
Creeping herb

Soleirolia soleirolii

The creeping ground cover that surrounds the Courtyard’s central mosaic is one of the plants growing directly in the ground. The tender, rounded leaves inspired the common name for this plant. Though Isabella did not grow baby’s tears in the Courtyard during her lifetime, today the ground cover can be interpreted as a memorial to Isabella’s son, Jackie, who died just before his second birthday.
