Past In The Studio Videos

Experience a moment of colorful joy as we head into the studio (and out and about) with Dominican-American visual artist Silvia López Chavez! Silvia’s work (found throughout the city) energizes the Boston landscape and harnesses the power of the creative process as an agent for positive change and connection.

Learn more about Silvia's work with the Gardner as a Neighborhood Salon Luminary Visiting Studio Artist.

This week we head not into the studio, but into the kitchen of Café Madeleine in Boston’s South End neighborhood with noted pastry chef Hana Quon! Always striving for culinary perfection, Hana has been described as “combining rigorous and scientific standards with an artistic and whimsical soulfulness.” - StarChefs

Create a floral mosaic with Rayna Lo! For this seventh and final workshop, incorporate elements of the past six sessions with Rayna into a vibrant composition that celebrates flowers in all their beauty.

Embrace the light this spring as we head into the Studio with artist Clint Baclawski! Working with photography, technology, light, and space, Clint’s playful studio practice invites experimentation with new methods, formats, and materials that push photography to its limits.

Head into the studio with mixed-media artist and arts-educator Stephen Hamilton! As a Black American trained in traditional west African art forms, Stephen treats the acts of weaving, dyeing, and woodcarving as ritualized acts of reclamation and seeks to bridge dialogue between contemporary Black cultures and the ancient African world through an asset-based lens.

Learn more about Stephen’s work with the Gardner as a visiting studio artist and as a community collaborator for the exhibition, Boston’s Apollo: Thomas McKeller and John Singer Sargent.
