Possibly belonged to Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837-1909), English poet and literary reviewer: a manuscript of his Ode is enclosed.
Gift to Isabella Stewart Gardner from her assistant Morris Carter (1877-1965), later director of Gardner’s museum (1924-1954) and her first biographer.
