As part of his ongoing exploration of the idea of “late style,” pianist Jonathan Biss brings to the Gardner a three-part series that matches Schubert’s sublime final sonatas—written in the final months of his brief life—with three new commissions from American composers. Tyson Davis, the youngest composer in the series, has already been commissioned by the Juilliard String Quartet, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Eighth Blackbird.
