John Zorn 70th Birthday Celebration

New Masada Quartet

Sunday, October 22, 2023
1:30 pm
CALDERWOOD HALL

The New Masada Quartet is

  • John Zorn, saxophone
  • Julian Lage, electric guitar
  • Jorge Roeder, bass
  • Kenny Wollesen, drums

John Zorn’s project in “Radical Jewish Culture,” Masada has been creating thrilling music for over thirty years and has amassed a huge international audience. Since the 1990s, Zorn has written several hundred tunes (which he has described as “Ornette Coleman and the Jewish scales” put together) for a flexible array of ensembles who interpret this huge repertoire. The most exciting and incisive Masada groups have been those led—as this one will be—by Zorn himself on saxophone. This dazzling new quartet promises to bring down the house.

This concert runs approximately one hour with no intermission.
