This a black and white photograph of a vertical painting of Adam and Eve in the Red Drawing Room at Isabella Stewart Gardner’s Beacon Street home. The painting hangs in a thick frame with floral motifs, on a wall upholstered in a dark floral damask covering. It sits at the center of the photograph, above a surface covered by a draped floral textile. Bric-a-brac is arranged on top of the textile. To our left is a tall, slender glass vase with stems that end in circular white petals.

Commentary
Before moving to the 4th floor of the museum, Isabella lived in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood at 152 Beacon Street. This photograph shows a variety of objects that she later installed in the museum including a painting of Adam and Eve by a follower of Lucas Cranach, the Elder (1472-1553). This picture is now on view in the Gothic Room.
