Hand Mirror, 1852-1859
Silver with glass, 40 x 14.5 cm (15 3/4 x 5 11/16 in.)
Dutch silver hand mirror with a velvet back. The three-lobed body is decorated with a border of intricate pieced floral vines. Towards the top at either side are two reclining classical nude figures, and at the center of each lobe is a basket. The mirror is crowned with an additional basket, this one full of fruit, and the handle is decorated with vignettes featuring figures, garlands and scrolls. It terminates in a wavy, sharp tip.
