Program

The novels of Henry James paint a vivid tableau of American expatriate social and artistic life at the end of the nineteenth century. James drew inspiration from a life-long relationship with the visual arts, and he developed close and lasting friendships with many of the most important American artists of his era, including John La Farge, James McNeill Whistler, and John Singer Sargent. Join Kiely and Tóibín for a wide-ranging conversation about Henry James, writing, friendship, and the visual arts.

Speakers

Declan Kiely, Robert H. Taylor Curator and Department Head, Literary and Historical Manuscripts at the Morgan Library, and Colm Tóibín, author of The Master.
