Message from the Director
Visitors to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are greeted by the visual splendor of the courtyard garden and surrounding galleries—a feast for the senses. The Museum was designed as a work of art in totality.
We were inspired by this visual sensuousness when we designed our website. First, I hope that your online experience will complement your visit to the Museum in person. The original experience is our top priority. On this site, I invite you to respond to our call to Explore. We conceived this online experience so that visitors of all kinds might discover diverse ways to understand the museum and its collections. Enjoy your online experience and please let us know what you think of our site.
Please share this website and the Gardner Museum with friends and family. See you in the galleries.
Norma Jean Calderwood Director,
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
The Museum exercises cultural and civic leadership by nurturing a new generation of talent in the arts and humanities; by delivering the works of creators and performers to the public; and by reaching out to involve and serve its community. The collection is at the center of this effort as an inspiring encounter with beauty and art.
