Volunteering at the Gardner
If you are someone with an open mind, who delights in learning from and interacting with all kinds of people, or if you have a love of horticulture and gardening, you might love volunteering at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum as a museum or horticulture volunteer.
Email us at volunteerinfo@isgm.org to learn more.
MUSEUM VOLUNTEERS
Museum volunteers form part of our frontline team. They meet visitors from near and far, answer questions about the collection and wayfinding, gather visitor feedback, and help people fall in love with the Gardner. A background in art or art history is not necessary. The volunteer schedule is flexible and includes Thursday evening and weekend opportunities.
HORTICULTURE VOLUNTEERS
Horticulture volunteers help staff to care for and maintain the plants in the Museum’s Living Collection, which includes those plants both on display in the Courtyard and at the Museum’s off-site nursery. This is an opportunity to learn and practice fine gardening techniques for a mature, potted plant collection. No previous experience is necessary, but attention to detail is a must! Spots are limited, and new volunteers are welcomed on a rolling basis. Ability to volunteer at both the Museum and the off-site nursery on the South Shore is preferred.
