This American match container is made of iron. It has a flat back with a hole at the top and at the bottom, allowing it to be mounted on a wall. The lower three edges of the back are roughly rectangular, but the top edge rises to a peak. When the match container is viewed from the side, there are two pieces that project outward from the back. The upper piece is triangular, and the larger, lower piece is shaped like a pouch and has a hinged cover that is blackened on the inside. There are different raised designs on each of the front sections of the match container: swirling foliage on the peaked area at the top, church window-like shapes inside a horizontal bar on the upper projecting piece, a fine geometric pattern on the hinged cover, and a thicker swirling pattern inside another horizontal bar on the front of the pouch.
