This fragment of a European Table Cover made from silk velvet captures a small expanse of the center of the cover with borders on two sides meeting in a square corner. The center part is predominantly dark brown woven with irregular lighter beige threads, giving golden highlights to this otherwise somber colors. The borders pick up on the lighter beige color, which form the decorative elements against a grayish-brown background. The decoration on the side border has a lace-like design on its interior sides and an undulating ribbon-like double-lines flowing through the center of its entire length. The top border continues the beige and grayish-brown color palette, but is formed from two sets of reversed images where the light beige designs in the shape of an X, and darker gray-brown woven-appearing, vertical strips, are reversed in color on the other section, i.e., the X-designs are darker gray-brown and the woven, vertical strips are lighter beige.
