This is a small, ornate silver soup tureen sitting on a matching silver tray. The tureen’s bowl is oblong with handles on the ends and four short claw-shaped feet, which sit in a depression in the oblong tray. The handles, feet, and rim of the tureen, and the rim of the tray, are decorated with motifs of leaves, flowers, scallop shells, and curving garland. The tureen’s lid is less ornate but has an intricate flower-shaped handle at the top and a space to insert a soup ladle. An intricate coat of arms is on the center of the tray and also on the sides of the tureen and lid. The silver has a patina of age and some tarnish. There is a simple, removable silver insert for the tureen’s bowl, and there are silversmith marks on the tureen, lid, and insert.
