This is a tooled leather, rectangular portfolio. It is dyed deep red. The front cover is heavily tooled and gilded in the tooled areas. The outer edges of the cover are filigreed with three borders in different patterns, and a double linear border separates the outer border from the two inner ones. In the center of the portfolio, on the red background, is an armorial shield, the coat of arms of Pope Clement XII. The shield bears four sets of stripped bars, three vertical and one horizontal. At the top of the coat of arms is the papal tiara, a three-tiered crown with a cross on top. Below the crown on either side are two hilts of swords crossed behind the shield. Below them on either side are putti (cupids) supporting the hilts. Finally, on either side of the horizontal stripe are a simple flower with a tassel hanging on a cord. The inside flaps of the portfolio are covered in floral paper in lighter shades of orange and green.
