Life Cycles

Bertucci Education Studio

Experiment, engage, and create in the Bertucci Education Studio every Saturday. Connect with the Museum’s rich collection and special exhibitions through hands-on, interactive, and fun experiences during Saturday drop-in workshops. Prior experience with art-making is not required and participation is free with Museum admission. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

August 25: Life Cycles

Reflect on the cycles of life through hands-on making and creative experimentation during this Studio workshop series inspired by the theme of Life Cycles.

This series of Saturday Open Studio workshops was developed in collaboration with Polly Thayer Starr Artist Series Visiting Artist Silvia López Chavez. Explore similar themes in the special exhibition Life, Death & Revelry, on view June 14 through September 3.

Artist Bio

With roots in the Dominican Republic, interdisciplinary artist Silvia López Chavez believes in the power of the creative process as an agent for positive change. She enjoys making art with others, which has led her to collaborative works and public art commissions, including a mural on the Charles River Esplanade; Lemonade Stand, an interactive art installation in Boston; a mural for Salem’s Punto Urban Art Museum; Color Up!, a pop-up community art installation in Boston; and most recently, a mural commissioned by Northeastern University.

Chavez’s work has been recognized by the New England Foundation for the Arts Creative City Grant, the Massachusetts Cultural Council LCC Grant and the Brother Thomas Award. Her exhibition record includes the Fitchburg Art Museum, Boston Children’s Museum, the New Hampshire Institute of Art. She has also been an artist-in-residence at Boston Children’s Hospital.

In addition to her fine art practice, Chavez is an award-winning graphic design professional, working for over 14 years with high-profile companies and institutions. She is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and continues her studio art practice at the Boston Center for the Arts.
