Volunteers at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are an integral part of the Gardner experience for the more than 200,000 visitors who come to the museum each year.
Volunteers are trained by Education Department staff to greet and welcome visitors, answer questions about the museum and its programs, assist visitors in the galleries, and usher at concerts and lecture programs. Once trained in these areas, volunteers may also pursue additional opportunities for giving introductory talks and working with visitors in the galleries.
We are looking for personable, outgoing people with excellent communication skills and an ability and desire to work with diverse audiences. An art background is not necessary, as we will provide training. Volunteers commit two years to the Gardner Museum, with a minimum of two three-hour shifts per month.
Whether you are a college student or a retiree, if you are enthusiastic about sharing the Gardner Museum with visitors from all over the world, consider becoming a volunteer today!
Shifts are 11 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 5m, Wednesday through Sunday, with additional shifts 5 pm to 9 pm on Thursdays. A minimum of two shifts per month is required as is a two-year commitment to the program.
The Museum is not currently recruiting for volunteers. If you would like more information about this program or would like to be added to our contact list for the next recruitment, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Museum Teacher Program
Museum Teachers play a vital role in introducing the Gardner Museum and its collection to a wide variety of audiences through individualized, guided gallery experiences. Museum Teachers are trained by Education Department staff to facilitate discussions in the galleries, focus on the process of "learning to look," and help visitors understand the collection and its installation, as well as the architecture of the historic building and new wing through interactive teaching methods. A strong interest in open-ended teaching approaches is necessary. A love of learning, desire to work with people of all ages, and strong communication skills are essential.
The Museum is not currently recruiting for Museum Teachers. If you would like more information about this program and to be added to our contact list, please email email@example.com.
