Praised by The New York Times for “combining the outward purity of a Renaissance angel and a voice of powerful warmth and excellent musicality,” American mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke is quickly making a name for herself as a rising star of the opera world.
During the 2008-2009 season, she appears at the Metropolitan Opera as Kitty Oppenheimer in the New York premiere of John Adams Doctor Atomic, and will sing the same role with English National Opera in her European debut. Ms. Cooke is a member of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program of the Metropolitan Opera, and has previously appeared in the Met’s productions of Hansel and Gretel, Iphigénie en Tauride, and Manon Lescaut. An acclaimed concert soloist and recitalist, Ms. Cooke has performed with the Met Chamber Ensemble, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra New England, and Oratorio Society of New York, among others. She made her New York and Washington, DC recital debuts in 2007 as the First Prize winner in the 2007 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.
