POSITION: Collection
Maintenance Technician
DEPARTMENT: Conservation
REPORTS TO: Associate Conservators
of Textiles & Objects
TYPE: Part time non-exempt position,
8 hours per week on Monday
SCOPE:
Assist with dusting, vacuuming, and monitoring of the
Museum's permanently exhibited textiles, sculpture and decorative
arts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dust collection, including furniture, frames, upholstery,
and other decorative
arts including paintings and hanging textiles
Monitor and dust specified horizontal surfaces, i.e.
leather chairs in Titian room.
Move furniture and clean gallery perimeters as well
as under groups of
furniture in center of rooms
Annual "deep cleaning" of galleries with assistance
from Preparator and/or
conservation technicians; move larger furniture,
window treatments, etc.
Clean behind exit doors
Dust special exhibition and collection storage areas
Change hygrothermograph charts every week
Dust bases under furniture with white cloth
QUALIFICATIONS:
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone with a strong
interest in collection management, conservation or fine art.
The successful candidate will have completed or be working
toward the completion of a BA degree, be attentive to detail,
be able to demonstrate sensitivity to handling art and fragile
objects. Ability to work on a ladder and scaffolding required.
Ability to be on feet, stretching and bending over for much
of the day; ability to lift 20 lbs.
