TITLE: Marketing/Public Relations Intern
DEPARTMENT: Marketing/Public Relations
REPORTS TO: Publicist, Marketing and Communications
TYPE OF POSITION: Part- to Full-time internship through Winter or Spring 2010; flexible schedule
The Marketing/Public Relations intern will work with the museum’s Marketing and Public Relations staff in support of the department’s projects and needs. This internship will involve a good deal of data entry and maintenance of community and media databases, so a willingness and ability to work with databases is key. However, there are also opportunities for contributing ideas about grassroots and online marketing, with a particular focus on expanding listings of museum programs in online and community media, including neighboring universities.
Key Components and Essential Functions of this role include:
Ongoing Projects:
- Organize and update information in online media contacts database
- Enter contact information into marketing department “buzz list,” and help research potential new contacts
- Process applications for “Isabellas Free…Forever!” program, keeping contact information current and mailing welcome packets to new members
- Research and help expand listings coverage of museum exhibitions, lectures and other programs in the media, with a particular focus on community newspapers and online calendars
- Lead museum’s grassroots marketing efforts, distributing postcards to universities, art galleries, coffee shops; brainstorm ideas for other points of distribution
- Assist with exhibition openings and special events as needed
- Check various newspapers and magazines daily for Museum articles, general art articles of interest, and accuracy of Museum listings and ads
- Maintain and organize media clippings to keep on permanent file
Other
- Willingness to support the marketing department's overall needs and projects.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of press-related events
- Assist with assembling materials for press contacts
- Assist with preparation of inter-departmental memos of upcoming media events and prior media coverage
General Requirements:
- General understanding and interest in arts marketing/public relations
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to take ownership over projects and work proactively
- Web- and computer-savvy (Microsoft Excel, online media database software, various web search engines, etc.)
- Strong interest in arts and culture
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn and contribute to the department and Museum as a whole
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills
