Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection
October 2-9, 2013 | Courtyard and Chinese Loggia
Eight plants from the original Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection of the Arnold Arboretum will be on display at the Gardner Museum to celebrate their hundredth anniversary of their arrival in the United States. Displayed in the Courtyard and Chinese Loggia, the magnificent bonsai have been under cultivation for 126 to 276 years.
On the anniversary of their arrival in America, the Anderson bonsai are reminders of the time when the arts and culture of Japan captured the American imagination.
Take a look at the room guide for the bonsai to learn more about them, the art of bonsai, and their visit to the Gardner. You can also learn more in an article excerpted from Arnoldia: The Magazine of the Arnold Arboretum by Peter Del Tredici, senior research scientist at the Arboretum.
