Michel Iodice (b. 1956 Italy) is a working sculptor, installation artist and set designer. He is well known for his original table installations, set designs and sculptures. Iodice has designed many exhibitions and museum installations for museums in Italy. His work is in many private collections and has been shown at Castle of Ovodi, Sweeden; Studio Angeletti, Rome; Castel Sant’Elmo, Naples, Museum of Piotrkow Tribunalsky, Warsaw, Poland; and Galleria del Serpente, National Archeological Museum, Naples. In 2008 he published Migration, a book documenting his installation of a giant nest at the Villa San Michael and Axel Munthe Museum on Capri. Michele Iodice currently lives and works in the Sanità quarter of Naples where he is also staff of the Educational department at the Museo Archelogico Nazionale di Napoli.

Michele Iodice came to the Gardner for a week in August 2005 to prepare for his November residency and installation project, A Pagan Feast; a reinterpretation of the museum’s Annual Holiday Table in the Dutch Room. Iodice scoured the galleries for objects and inspiration for his table, took photographs, and spent time in the archives. Ultimately, Iodice transformed the beautiful mosaic from the center of the Courtyard into a larger than life tablecloth. On it he placed the objects and sculptures he selected from the collection along with nearly one hundred of his own newly created pieces. Some of these works, such cast metal figures were created and shipped from Italy however; Iodice and an assistant crafted most of the objects for this project in the Carriage House apartment with materials he collected around Boston and catalogues of the museum’s Collection. Michele Iodice spoke about his project and work with curator Pieranna Cavalchini on the day that the table opened to the public.
