The Renaissance wasn’t just a flourishing period of culture and ideas – it was, and still is, a mind set. No one more exemplifies this than Gardner – inspired by art, music, gardens, travel, and the world around her, she was the ultimate Renaissance Woman.
- Courtyard Sounds: Enjoy music by up-and-coming musicians from the New England Conservatory (5:30-8:30pm)
- Gallery Travels: Explore the galleries with a self-guided tour of Renaissance highlights in the collection.
- Viewfinder: Visit the Dutch Room and get acquainted with some of the personalities at home here. And discover the art of marriage with Viewfinder talks throughout the evening in the Triumph of Marriage special exhibition gallery.
- Sketching in the Galleries: Create your own masterpieces with drawing in the cloisters and galleries (6 to 9PM)
- Artful Flavors: Indulge in the culinary arts, signature cocktails including the all-new Madame Gautreau, and more at the courtside bar and Gardner Café.

New York native Leon Kirchner (b. 1919) is a performer’s composer. He is championed by some of the world’s finest musicians, many of whom are joining in this celebration of his 90th birthday.

And a changing array of “Courtside Bites” (available for just $1) will adequately sustain you to explore the galleries and art activities that await.

The Madame Gautreau cocktail is named for John Singer Sargent’s painting, Madame Gautreau Drinking a Toast (1882-83) – one of Isabella Gardner’s favorites – depicting the ravishing beauty, charm and vitality of Paris socialite Virginie Avegno (“Madame X”). Indulge in this all-new specialty cocktail alongside the court; and then go pay Madame Gautreau herself a visit in the nearby Blue Room gallery!
