April 17, 2008, 7:00pm - Jazz at the Gardner: Syncopation
Dubbed "the Manhattan Transfer of the 21st century" by the Boston Globe, vocal jazz group Syncopation performs cutting-edge jazz, pop and world music at small clubs and large festivals. But this is not your father's vocal group. Lee's splashy arranging style, Christine's hot trumpet playing, Dave's angular wailing, and Aubrey's trombone styling make Syncopation unique and contemporary.
On five Thursday nights throughout the year, Jazz at the Gardner presents the best emerging young musicians and recent graduates from the Berklee College of Music, such as these former students.
More about this performance
Originally formed in January of 2002 at Berklee College of Music and mentored by Cheryl Bentyne of the Manhattan Transfer, Syncopation performs catchy swing, Latin and pop tunes along with A capella jazz and improvisation pieces. Syncopation has performed across the US in festivals and on radio broadcasts. They have also been welcomed with open arms overseas, and recently returned from their third annual tour of Japan in September 2004, giving clinics and singing for sold-out audiences across the country.
