Thought-provoking contemporary exhibition, Listen Hear: The Art of Sound, opens at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum this spring

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum will open a thought-provoking, sound art exhibition this spring called, Listen Hear: The Art of Sound, featuring 12 artists and architects from around the world who use a broad range of approaches to sound art. Various forms of active listening will be explored in the Museum and in nearby neighborhoods for the exhibition, which opens March 8 and runs through Sept. 5, 2017.

George Steel, a highly acclaimed, versatile New York City musician and impresario, is taking a new position at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum as Visiting Curator for Performing Arts. His newly created role signals an exciting era for the Museum, building on its foundation as a center for creativity and the arts. Steel will draw on the historic collection and the spaces of the original building and new wing as sources for broader contemporary and multi-disciplinary artistic expression.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum receives prestigious Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant for new artistic initiative

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum received a prestigious three-year $500,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support an ambitious, new multi-disciplinary initiative that re-imagines the Museum’s historic spaces and collections in connection with the contemporary arts practice of living artists. The museum aims to reclaim the full territory of Isabella Stewart Gardner’s bold vision of uniting art forms to catalyze new work and new experiences.
