Over her 26 years as Norma Calderwood Director, Anne Hawley breathed life into the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and returned it to the vibrant cultural center it was during the founder’s time. As she prepares to step down at the end of the year, the Museum is celebrating her tenure with “Fanfare for Anne,” a free day to honor her many accomplishments on Sat. Nov. 21.

Peggy Fogelman Named Next Director

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum announced today that Peggy Fogelman is the new Norma Jean Calderwood Director, succeeding Anne Hawley as the fifth director in the Museum’s history. Hawley will step down after 26 years at the end of the year, and Fogelman will assume the directorship in January 2016.

Composite Landscapes Exhibition Catalog Wins ASLA Communications Award

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum's exhibition catalog, "Composite Landscapes: Photomontage and Landscape Architecture," is a 2015 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Professional Award recipient. The 2013 exhibition at the Gardner Museum, curated by Charles Waldheim, Ruettgers Curator of Landscape, with Andrea Hansen, was the first exhibition of its kind in North America.

Ornament and Illusion: Carlo Crivelli of Venice

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston will be the sole venue for the first ever monographic exhibition dedicated to Carlo Crivelli in the United States. Titled, "Ornament and Illusion: Carlo Crivelli of Venice," the exhibition opens October 22 and runs through January 25, 2016.

Charmaine Wheatley: Souvenirs

On September 4, the Museum opens "Charmaine Wheately: Souvenirs," an exhibition of 25 drawings and objects. Wheatley, a Canadian who lives between Newfoundland and New York, is a performance and multimedia artist. She produced most of the work in the exhibition as a direct response to her residency at the Museum in 2012.

Historic Footage Connected to Gardner Museum Burglary Released

Twenty-five years after the notorious burglary of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, law enforcement officials are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an unauthorized visitor to the museum the night before the theft. That person entered the museum through the same door as the thieves in the middle of the night, 24 hours before the theft.

Charles Waldheim: honorary member of ASLA

Charles Waldheim, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum's Ruettgers Curator of Landscape, received the honor yesterday of being named an honorary member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. He is one of only 175 non-landscape architects to be given the esteemed honorary membership since the Society was formed in 1899.
