May 15, 2008 – Garden of Earthly Delights
Isabella and her husband Jack Gardner were always fascinated by horticulture and landscape design, and they created wonderful garden spaces at their home and at the museum. In addition to the living courtyard at the heart of the museum, images of flowers and plants abound in art throughout the museum, inspiring visitors as well as contemporary Artists-in-Residence.
- Courtyard Music: Live music in the courtyard from 5-7pm.
- Gallery Travels: Explore the flora, alive and in paint, throughout the museum.
- Viewfinder: Hear more about what it takes to keep the courtyard in bloom in talks with greenhouse staff at 6:30 and 7:30pm.
- Exhibition: Explore Luxury for Export: Artistic Exchange Between India and Portugal Around 1600.
- Drawing in the Galleries: Sketch the courtyard from 6-9pm
- Special Activity: Even your urban apartment can have a touch of the Gardners’ landscapes. Pot up your own nasturtium seeds (one of the museum’s signature plants) to take home. Weather permitting.
After Hours PLUS
May 15, 2008, 7:00pm - Special film screening of The Ephemeral In Focus
Watch a documentary chronicling the contemporary artist team, Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey, and their use of grass as a photographic medium for an exhibition at the museum in 2002. Pushing the boundary of traditional definitions of artist materials, the work of Ackroyd and Harvey continues to astonish.
Admission is included with After Hours tickets but is limited to 250 people, on a first come, first served basis.
Originally formed in January of 2002 at Berklee College of Music and mentored by Cheryl Bentyne of the Manhattan Transfer, Syncopation performs catchy swing, Latin and pop tunes along with A capella jazz and improvisation pieces. Syncopation has performed across the US in festivals and on radio broadcasts.
